Our 2011 introductory discussion of how netball line betting works and what to expect from this column

Once again this year, for the purposes of this weekly column, we will only recommend a bet where Ben’s opinion differs from that of bookmakers by at least 3.5 goals.

Here are Ben’s thoughts on Round 11 of the 2013 ANZ Championships:

Round 11 Tips (please note: all times are the local time for the home side)

Sunday June 2, 12:10 PM NSW Swifts v Adelaide Thunderbirds

Swifts:  2-7 (eighth on ladder), 2-2 home

Thunderbirds:  9-1 (first on ladder), 4-1 away

Bookmakers’ line:  TBC

Ben says:  Swifts finally cracked it for another win last week with a dominant 19 goal win over the Northern Mystics in what was a solid performance. They face an even tougher challenge this week when they face an Adelaide Thunderbirds team that was pished to the line by Canterbury Tactix. For Adelaide, Sharni Layton continues to fire in defence and shooter Carla Borrego has been cleared to play after no serious damage was found after she took a knock to her left knee in the final minutes of last Monday night's win. Thunderbirds by 12

Sunday June 2, 2:10 PM Queensland Firebirds v Melbourne Vixens

Firebirds:  7-2 (third on ladder), 2-2 home

Vixens:  7-2 (second on ladder), 4-1 away

Bookmakers’ line:  TBC

Ben says:  In a quirk of the draw, Firebirds face Vixens for the second time in as many weeks and will be looking to make a perfect two from two against them. With captain Laura Geitz returning to the line-up following the death of her father, they lost a thriller that went into overtime to Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic. The Vixens returned to the winners list with a gutsy win over Southern Steel and it was set up by strong full court defensive pressure. They'll be looking to rebound from the round nine clash when they went down in was later referred to as a "flat" performance by coach Simone McKinnis.Vixens by 3

Recommended bet:   TBC

Sunday June 2, 7:20 PM Waikato/BOP Magic v Southern Steel

Magic:  5-4 (fourth on ladder), 3-0 home

Steel:  5-4 (fifth on ladder), 2-3 away

Bookmakers’ line:  TBC

Ben says:  The Magic won a thriller over the Firebirds as defender Casey Kopua made a telling intercept to get her team over the line. Many had suggested that the premiership hangover theory was coming into play again as the Magic had not been as dominant in their premiership defence this year. Steel played some good netball against the Vixens last Monday night and certainly did push them, but a poor third quarter let them down. While the Magic have won the past five against the Steel, this will be a close that could come down to the last quarter.   Magic by 6

Recommended bet:   TBC

Monday June 3, 7:40 PM Canterbury Tactix v Central Pulse

Tactix:  2-7 (ninth on ladder), 1-5 home

Pulse:  5-5 (sixth on ladder), 0-4 away

Bookmakers’ line:  TBC

Ben says:  It was a confidence boosting performance from Tactix as they pushed Thunderbirds in what was a reflection of just how open the competition is this season for all teams from first to last ladder position. The Pulse won a one goal thriller over West Coast Fever in a game that was evenly matched until the final quarter. Pulse have got a good run home as they face the Tactix twice on either side of a bye before facing NSW Swifts in the last round. They will be too good for a Tactix team that has been competitive but will not be good enough. Pulse by 15

Recommended bet:   TBC

Bye week:  West Coast Fever, Northern Mystics
