Ben says:  Today sees the Melbourne Vixens and Queensland Firebirds clash in the decider. It’s the fourth time that these two teams have faced each other this season, but while the Vixens hold an upper hand with two wins to one there’s very little that separates either team. The Vixens won their way through to their second Grand Final appearance in three years by actually defeating the Firebirds by four goals in the major semi-final two weeks ago thanks mainly to a strong defensive performance led by captain Bianca Chatfield in combination with English international Geva Mentor. For the first time since 2008 we have a team that has won through to the decider after losing their semi-final in the Firebirds, they beat Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic to make it an all Australian ANZ Championship Grand Final. There’s going to be several battles that could win this game for either side, namely the centre court battle between young guns Liz Watson (Vixens) and Kim Ravaillion (Firebirds), along with how Firebirds towering goal shooter Romelda Aiken can be contained. While it would be wrong to concentrate purely on Aiken, she’s the focal point in her team and scores the majority of her team’s goals but most importantly it comes down to restricting just quickly she is or isn’t fed the ball. This game will go down to the wire and could go into overtime, with both teams so evenly matched on paper. Vixens by 2
