ANZ Championship Grand Final
While the new Conference System put in place for this year’s ANZ Championship season has been a bone of contention on both sides of the Tasman (Australia/New Zealand), it can definitely be argued that the two best teams have made Sunday’s Grand Final. The Queensland Firebirds and NSW Swifts clash for the fourth time this year, with the most recent being the Australian Conference Final where Firebirds triumphed 55-44. Currently on a 12 game winning streak, the rampaging Firebirds will be heard to beat, this is even if the Swifts are the competition’s most accurate shooting team with an 87.2 per cent accuracy rate. While the Firebirds are the least accurate shooting teaml, their defensive line led by captain Laura Geitz has been hard to stop this season and will play an integral role, while in defence for the Swifts Julie Corletto and Sharni Layton will have their work cut out.
