Round 14 Tips (please note: all times are the local time for the home side)

Saturday May 30, 12:18 PM Fever v Swifts

Bookmakers’ line: Fever 1-5.

Ben says: Depending on who wins this clash in Perth this afternoon will host the Australian Conference elimination final. What’s interesting to note though is that while West Coast Fever sit two points ahead of NSW Swifts, the Swifts actually have a better percentage. Swifts booked their place in the finals last Sunday with a win on the road against Melbourne Vixens. Fever will be backed by a capacity crowd and after coming off a win over Adelaide Thunderbirds last weekend, they will get close but I’ve tipped the Swifts to win a thriller. Swifts by 3

Recommended bet: 1 unit on Swifts +1.5 at $1.85 (Centrebet)

Sunday May 31, 11:48 AM Thunderbirds v Pulse

Bookmakers’ line: TBC

Ben says: It’s the end of an era this weekend for the Adelaide Thunderbirds with coach Jane Woodlands-Thompson and midcourter Leigh Waddington both saying goodbye after this game. Woodlands is the last of the inaugural coaches still in charge at her original team since the competition’s inception in 2008, while Waddington is vice-captain and has been a valuable part of the team’s midcourt set up at different stages. Robyn Broughton also ends her stint  as Central Pulse coach. While the Thunderbirds are out of finals contention this year, they will want to finish the season strongly and ensure that Pulse remain winless in Australia. Pulse have yet to win in Australia from 19 games with 18 losses and a draw. Thunderbirds by 12

Recommended bet: TBC

Sunday May 31, 2:18 PM Firebirds v Steel

Bookmakers’ line: TBC

Ben says: Another Challenge Trophy Defence will occur in Brisbane when the Queensland Firebirds clash with the Southern Steel. If the Firebirds can successfully defend the trophy for a second time, they will host the Australian Conference Final. Chasing their 10th consecutive win, the Firebirds have won six of the seven previous encounters against the Steel. Firebirds by 9

Recommended bet: TBC

Sunday May 31, 7:10 PM Tactix v Magic

Bookmakers’ line: TBC

Ben says: The Mainland Tactix have yet to win a game against the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic since ANZ Championship netball started in 2008 and it will continue when Magic will demolish them tomorrow afternoon. Magic by 15

Recommended bet: TBC

Monday June 1, 7:40 PM Mystics v Vixens

Bookmakers’ line: TBC

Ben says: In the final home and way around game of 2015, the Melbourne Vixens travel to Auckland to take on Northern Mystics on Monday night. Missing from the Vixens team is English international defender Geva Mentor after she underwent minor surgery on her right knee on Tuesday. The Vixens finals hopes came tumbling down last weekend when they went down to the NSW Swifts and will be playing for pride against a Mystics team that just got over the line against Southern Steel last weekend. Vixens by 5

Recommended bet: TBC

  1. Michael says:

I had Ben going 2-2 last week; he had the Saturday game loss, Vixens by 2 (so +4.5 was a winner), Firebirds by 25 (-14.5 a winner) and Pulse by 11 which would’ve been a loss at +3.5.

I’m not sure that last prediction was supposed to be 11, but even if it was Pulse by 1 it was a bet and a loss.
