Happy New Year Nick
There has been a site the past 10 years where fantasy football has been run that way (correctly), and I myself have done one using spreadsheets for mates that long as well (come on the current Premiers - the Goulburn Showers). Happy to see it on another site, hope the fans embrace it - I know it made my enjoyment of league more than before.
Sad to hear the first name dropped for this drugs thing, especially being such a superstar of 2012. I hope it's not true and it's just rumour, so I won't mention a name here, but very disappointing if true. All will understand if he is guilty (sorry for the cryptic).
Come on Season 2013 - while I don't expect much from my Eels this year (which is good, as I don't get disappointed), it's not always the roster that gets you the opints. We all saw the big names do zero and the Storm props who we still don't know their names wearing Premiership rings. Again, not saying Eels will do that, but I expect a bigger team effort than the past 2 years. Once they spend cash on a fair-dinkum quality hooker (the last time was perhaps Steve Edge - I still shake my head they let Kingston go to keep Matt Keating???) they will give themselevs better opportunities.
Peace
Davey G
hey is there an AFL version of this?
You've written some great articles lately, the Mundine one especially was a cracker. But you have attracted some really, really stupid readers.
It's funny you mention that Semiipro - this reminds me of a particular comment made by our beloved Tim Nappertime last year in another one of his invaluable contributions to MTN where he suggested that Australia had one of the least corrupt public services in the world - http://makingthenut.com/content/sledge-clean-australia-deport-billionair...
Tim Nappertime: "I say that the Australian public service is efficient because it is one of the least corrupt in the world (I think ranked 8th or better out of over 160 countries on the Transparency International Index) and is one of the most effective at implementing reform (again I believe ranked 8th). So our public servants aren’t fatcats, they are actually quite slender; and they certainly are not ‘taking a cut’ as you say – the public service is largely corruption free."
I guess Tim Nappertime thinks "efficient" means "people who don't work still get paid" and "corrupt" means "unlucky, we finally got caught". I've never heard of this "Transparency International Index" but I know that on the widely acepted "International Corrupt Fat-Cat Index of Socialist Wankers" there are many members of our beloved Trade Unions and the Australian Labor Party who rank pretty bloody high. I bet they're all high fiving each other in Kate Lundy's office now that this ridiculous waste of money and time is making news headlines rather than Craig Thomson, Julia Gillard's AWU scandal and Eddie Obeid. I guess they can throw a few lines of credit to the Pope today too for relegating them to page 2.
The only thing I'm filthy about is that MTN's own Sportinguru knew the fix was in in the cricket and he didn't tell me about it. I even suggested that betting on cricket was stupid unless you knew the fix was in, and he still didn't help me out!
What Sportinguru needs to do is give is the tip, surreptitiously, when he knows the result before the game. Maybe an asterisk on the fore-known result?
While we're at it, I'd really appreciate inside information on the stock market. I won't be greedy, ill just take a few options and take out $50-100k a throw. I'm not greedy.
Any NSW Labour members out there with a land tip? Throw me a bone, for gawds sake!
Etc, etc.
If you don't believe Australia is in the top 5 most corrupt countries in the world, you're a fantasist.
Thanks for the stats. You've really encapsulated the big fight in a fool-proof manner I obviously couldn't manage.
I just hope you don't find my next article as offensive or difficult to interpret.
Cheers,
Stu
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/boxing-mma/punch-statistics-under...
Statistics compiled by CompuBox show Geale landed 208 punches from 690 thrown, an accuracy of 30 per cent.
Mundine landed 141 from 646 thrown, for a 22 per cent accuracy rating.
Never write another piece again to spare the world from your ignorance, thanks.
Pricing of NRL Punters Guide
A point of clarification - the publisher dictates the pricing of the guide, not Nick.
I know this because the AFL 'sister publication' (written by 'Nut Gurus' Greg Oberscheidt and yours truly) will be hitting newsagents in around three weeks' time, and the same decision-making structure around the pricing applied to the AFL guide as well.
I agree with you SemiiPro - I couldn't help thinking that Nick had priced the book wrongly either. Though I was more thinking that it was about 10% the cost of what it could have been.
I'd be buying it if it was selling for $150. Last year's one was good. This year's is even better. My greatest concern is that it's too good and will have an impact on the markets.
Hi Nick
This looks awesome. But I'm worried about the price. You are now a world playa. I can't help notice that this costs more than Baseball prospectus. 50% more. This looks like an Aussie publisher trying to gouge the unsophisticated Aussie buyer. Which is a massive shame because I am dead keen to support this.
I think the $10 price point for e-books is established. I would have bought it instantly at $9.99. $15 makes me think too much about value.
Anyway, good luck with it.
Ever heard the expression tongue-in-cheek? Goodness gracious me. In the words of the late great Rex Mossop 'I am so incredulous I can hardly believe it.'
He is a fine poker player, ol eggsy. I was also very glad to see he cashed. I hope to see more good stories like this from you, tim. You do them far more justice than the negative socialist political whinging.
Mundine robbed? What fight were you watching you twit! He was outclassed and outboxed end of story, you are another fool and I'm surprised such a rubbish article is on this great site. Whoever believes Mundine won should get off whatever they are on.
If you care to look back to the NFL preview you guys did at the start of the season, Semiipro did pick Frisco to win it all. But Semiipro did not back them. When Semiipro picks a team and doesn't back them, there is a 99% chance they will win. If he does back a team, the chances that team wins is around 1%. Semiipro lore.
True story
No gambling guru would seriously bet on a cricket game (unless you know the fix), let alone the Aussie cricket team. Pass
The below sounds good. So many questions on how it works as I've never been in a draft comp before. Seems like it will be awkward to get the whole league online at the same time to pick their teams. Who sets the time? If you're still allowed to join 5 leagues, do all drafts happen at the same time?
Nick, will Making the Nut be hosting a NRL Supercoach draft league?
Hasler didn't break a contract. He was sacked.
If you've seen their adds for the last few years, you would see they've been targeting the witless moron market for a while now. KFC consistently have the stupidest adds on TV. They think we're all dumb and they've got the dumb food for us. A burger with 2 pieces of chicken instead of bread? Brilliant! One handed wraps that let you crash house parties and put you free greasy hand on someone else's vinyl records? Great idea!
Great article;encapsulates what most sane people are saying. however, minus 1 mark for not also mentioning the fact they are now promoting Vodafone pre-paid mobile between overs as well.
That's a lot of words to bother with a sport that is dead in this country. And really, the advertising is aimed at people who could possibly be interested in a sub-standard product (Australian cricket) or products (throw in KFC).
I think you missed the point.
PS those boys don't pretend to be anything other than what they are - seemingly good blokes who play music. It's not their fault people want to give them cash to hang out with Michael Clarke. (Which begs the question - is that the ONLY way people would hang out with that guy?)
Simon Davis played in the 1980s. His final ODI was during the Bicentennial celebrations in 1987-88.
Did Simon Davis get a gig around that time? #vicsdoitbetter
Reminds me of the most consistently bad 1st grader of all time. I grew up watching some very bad then very good teams at Seiffert oval. There was one player, most often called a 'utility' but who I referred to as 'futility' who amazed me every other week with his terrible play. Fortunately for him, stats weren't much of a go then, but I estimate he dropped the ball every 3 touches and missed half the tackles he attempted. He must of been a Canberra 1st grade regular for 6 or 7 years. He was just a cosmic joke.
If you had told me back then that that player, Craig Bellamy, would go on to be the best coach in the NRL, I would have put you to the turf and put you out of your misery as you would have obviously lost your grasp of reality.
True story.
very quick in bagging sbw but didnt hasler break a contract too.the way greenhorn and hasler went about it was a disgrace too.those in glass houses
