Nick Tedeschi is a freelance sports writer, renowned for his biting commentary, sharp language and literary sensibilities. He is an avid rugby league follower who has a severe dislike of self-important referee’s bosses, New South Wales selectors, cheap thugs, Parramatta cats and the Nine network. Never once has Nick been accused of retreating into his shell on any matter rugby league nor has he ever merely shrugged his shoulders believing someone in the game knows better. His favourite team is Canterbury-Bankstown and he has vowed not to rest until Jarryd Hayne is shown up as the underperforming phoney he really is. He is generally loathed by Cronulla Sharks fans.
He is also known to find himself at the racetrack, drinking light beer on the old SCG hill or watching basketball. While the likes of Super Impose, Sunline and Makybe Diva have captured his heart his three favourite horses to ever race, in order, are Kingston Shores, Zipping and Ears Ronny. His preferred form of racing is over a fence and/or a hurdle. He is still pushing the cause of Brad Hodge though these days it is with a smirk knowing the culture of Australia cricket has cost the team the best bat in the country in a time of dire need. He watches the Melbourne Tigers and loves Al Westover but cannot bring himself to cheer for a team that considers Chris Anstey a legend. Election time is his favourite time as there is no better betting than election betting.
He hates hipsters yet wears dark ray-ban glasses and listens to Belle and Sebastian. He is a man of contradiction. He has been threatened by lawyers and colourful racing identities yet continues on unabated. He is in love with Christina Hendricks and once ventured to Woody Creek just to drink whiskey where Hunter Thompson once did. He is not the Most Interesting Man in the World but he is an interesting man of the world with a full beard and a taste for Dos Equis.
He has written for Punting Ace, Back Page Lead, Crikey, the Winning Post, the Big Tip and the Roar, has previously suffered through life as a political advisor and speech writer and has, for many years, twirled the numbers in the betting industry.
