Saturday February 1
Caulfield (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)
Race 2 No. 2 Reparations
His two runs back (both at Listed level) have been very sound for a BM90 race, only goes up in weight by 1 kilo after the claim whilst dropping significantly in grade, tends to perform better after a couple of runs (10 starts for 2-0-1 first and second-up, 10 starts for 5-0-0 thereafter), 3 starts at the track/ trip for 1-0-1 plus a fourth-placing in a Listed race.
Race 5 No. 6 Five All
Best of the run-on horses last start when third to Flying Hostess at her first go over a mile, subtract her race debut and she’s had 8 career starts for 3-4-1, drops to 51 kilos here (3 under the limit) after the claim.
Race 7 No. 6 Shamal Wind
2 wins from as many races over 1000 metres, 3 wins from as many races first-up, her last 3 runs last prep were a second to Spirit Of Boom in a Group 2, sixth (beaten only 2.8 lengths) in a Group 2 and second in a Group 3. Drops back to Listed level here, and speed should be strong enough to settle near the back from the wide barrier and charge late.
Race 8 No. 8 He’s Your Man
His best European form was all beyond the 2000-metre range, so his 2 efforts in Australia to date over 1400 and 1700 metres were sound for this (meets Prince of Penzance 3 kilos better for their last meeting), blinkers go on to assist with his turn of foot.
Rosehill (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)
Race 8 No. 12 Reply Churlish
Has come of age this prep with 4 wins from as many starts, drops back from 1800 to 1500 metres here but comes off a 4-week freshen to do so, from gate 2 should have an easy time rolling to the front, could dictate the speed of the race and prove hard to catch.
