Saturday August 10

Flemington (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 4 No. 8 Prettyhappyaboutit

  • Won at Listed level start, races best fresh (5 starts for 3-2-0 when first or second-up, 3 starts for 0-0-2 thereafter), 7 starts at the trip for 3-2-2, well suited on the 54-kilo limit.

Race 5 No. 10 Now And Zen

  • Very poor second-up but tends to struggle on very wet track so I’m inclined to forgive that, improves sharply after a couple of runs back from a spell (6 starts for 1-0-0 when first or second-up, 7 starts for 3-1-2 thereafter), 2 starts at the trip for 1-1-0, had form through Whisper Downs over the middle-distance range last preparation.

Race 6 No. 3 Magnifique Soleil

  • Excellent win in the Listed Winter Championship final last start (second-place horse has since won), 15 starts for 8-2-1 on tracks rated dead or better, only has to give 1.5 kilos to the likely favourite Henwood (who has never won over 1400 metres or in unrestricted grade).

Race 7 No. 3 Ferlax

  • Won his first 4 careeer starts (including the Group 1 Australian Guineas) before failing at his first attempt the Sydney way of going when 7thto It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas, 2 starts at the trip for 2 wins, only 2.5 kilos above the limit and receives 3.5 kilos off the top weight Luckygray.
