Saturday June 8

Flemington (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 5 No. 10 Ominous Quality

  • Excellent horse when fresh (6 starts for 2-2-1 when first or second-up, 7 starts for 1-1-0 thereafter), much prefers good to dead-rated tracks, last start fourth (beaten only one length) at Listed level is excellent form for this, drawn in gate 1.

Race 7 No. 13 Rifleman

  • His form through Planet Voyage (and therefore El Magico) and Umgeton (who has form through Broken) puts him right in this, loves 1000 metres (8 starts for 3-3-0, 4 starts for 0-1-0 at all other distances), gets in 1.5 kilos under the limit after the claim.

Race 8 No. 8 By The Way

  • Terrific first-up run to finish second at Listed level, significant second-up improver (8 starts for 1-2-1 fist-up, 7 starts for 4-1-0 second-up), last 2 starts at track/ trip led to a win and a second to Fawkner, wide barrier is no problem as he is a get back/ run on type.

Race 9 No. 3 Pago Rock

  • 4 weeks between runs suits him as his best form is fresh (6 starts for 5-0-0 first-up), 5 starts for 3-1-0 at the trip (only miss was at Group 3 level here), excellent overall record of 15 starts for 8-3-0.

Randwick (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 6 No. 15 Embark

  • Good first run for Moody stable off an 8-week break when third at Listed level, 13 starts for 3-5-2 at the trip, much better horse after a couple of runs into a campaign (11 starts for 3-2-2 when third-up or later).

Race 7 No. 3 Kaypers

  • 10 starts for 4-0-2 at the trip (18 starts for 4-2-3 at all other distances), last start third in Scone Cup (off a 7-week break) gives him a form line through Speediness, Mouro and recent Group 1 winner Beaten Up, gets into a BM90 with just 55 kilos after the claim.

Eagle Farm (tips based on a track rating range of good 3 to slow 7)

Race 4 No. 3 Satin Shoes

  • Finally dropped back from Group 1-2 level last start to a Listed race and won, 3 previous starts over 1000 metres include a win and a fourth to Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes, drawn well to jump to the front and dictate terms.

Race 5 No. 16 Floria

  • Her two runs for the Moody stable since coming over from NZ have been excellent (second to Skyerush at Group 2 level, then fourth in the Listed Scone Cup against the boys when never on the track), drawn substantially better than most of her main rivals in the race.

Race 7 No. 2 Honorius

  • Was four weeks between runs (therefore has more fitness upside here) when third to Hawkspur last start after drawing a bad barrier, beat Hawkspur home in his previous start in the Frank Packer Plate, drawn a good gate for a much better run in transit this time, well over the odds.

Race 8 No. 9 Spirit Of Boom

  • 8 of last 12 Stradbroke winners have come through the Doomben 10,000 (including 5 who ran second or fourth in it), meets Buffering and Epaulette both 4 kilos better for running fourth (beaten 3.4 lengths) in the 10,000, drops back to a handicap after 4 straight runs at Group 1-2 WFA level, drawn to get a cheap run from gate 2, going around at $31!

Race 9 No. 2 Precedence

  • Beat Volia Ici home comfortably in the Melbourne Cup (that galloper’s form ties through Quintessential and Moriarty), comfortably beat all his rivals from the Premier’s Cup last start, 2400 metres is his ideal trip, can use his class edge to repeat his last start effort.
