Saturday May 17

Caulfield (tips based on a track rating range good 2 to dead 5)

Race 3 No. 9 Pin Your Hopes

Well beaten last start by Onpicalo on a wet track (Onpicalo’s preferred surface) so drier track suits this one, 4 starts at the trip for 3-1-0, gets in 1.5 kilos under the limit after the claim, can box seat from gate 4.

Race 4 No. 2 Halle Rocks

Comes back from Group 1 WFA company , four and five starts back was beaten only 1.4 lengths and 3.2 lengths (by Shamal Wind) at Listed level, strong winner at this track and trip 2 starts ago.

Scone (tips based on a track rating range good 2 to dead 5)

Race 8 No. 1 Aeronautical

Last time he raced at Listed level he won well with 58 kilos (over similar trip to this), solid third behind Hot Sniztel last start at Group 3 level on a wet track, much prefers drier surface (10 starts for 0-0-1 on slow or heavy, 17 starts for 4-3-2 on good or dead), should get strong speed on to suit.

Doomben (tips based on a track rating range dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 4 No. 2 She Can Skate

Goes best fresh (6 starts for 3-1-1 first or second-up), not beaten far at Listed at Group 3 level during Melbourne spring (only 3 lengths off Lankan Rupee at WFA!), won 2 trials this way of going in preparation for this race, drawn nicely in gate 5.

Race 8 No. 2 River Lad

Forgive last start at Group 2 WFA level when copped a flying clod in the eye during the race, ran second to Appearance at Group 2 WFA level in his previous start, handles all going, carries weight well, and despite wide gate should have little trouble crossing to the front in a race with very little apparent early speed.
