The 2014 NFL Lines – Week 2

Filed in NFL, NFL Tips by on September 13, 2014

Week 1 was huge for the underdogs in the NFL. Will week 2 see Nick Tedeschi’s tips follow that trend based on legitimate analytical rigour. Will Cliff Bingham’s tips – based on hearsay, personal prejudices, potential for chaos and as the season wears on, an increasing volume of fantasy football vendettas – take any notice of this trend at all?

Still AWOL, it would seem.

CB (Tips for novelty value only – if you bet on these and lose, you get what you deserve)

DALLAS @ TENNESSEE: 1 UNIT ON TENNESSEE -3.5 AT $1.91 (CENTREBET)
Having spent a grand total of three nights in Nashville, I can guarantee you that (a) Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge is my favourite bar of all time to get blind in, and (b) if the Titans run roughshod over the sketchy Cowboys’ D, you’ll need to be in the door by about 4pm if you want a spot to enjoy the revelry for the subsequent 8-12 hours.

NEW ENGLAND @ MINNESOTA: 1 UNIT ON NEW ENGLAND -3.0 AT $1.91 (CENTREBET)
I’m not going to start picking the Brady/ Belichick combo to lose consecutive matches until it is proven beyond all reasonable doubt that they’ve lost the old mojo. For the better part of a decade, they’ve tended to respond to a loss by eviscerating their next opponent – who is dealing with ‘everyone now thinks we’re pretty good after a big opening win’ syndrome this week.

MIAMI @ BUFFALO: 1 UNIT ON BUFFALO +1.0 AT $1.94 (SPORTSBET)
As any Bills fan worth their salt will tell you, this is the part of the year where hopes are raised and the Bills go 3-1 or maybe 4-2 to start the year…. then conspire to finish 6-10 yet again. Last playoff appearance was over a decade ago…. in the Music City Miracle. I don’t care if you start with 5 straight wins, Bills – there is no way I’m dropping my guard before the traditional kick to the teeth arrives.

NEW ORLEANS @ CLEVELAND: 1 UNIT ON CLEVELAND +6.5 AT $1.95 (CENTREBET)
I can’t be bothered locating the stats, but since when was it a good idea to bet on the Saints in an outdoor match? Dome = good. Natural elements, even in warmer months = bad.

NY JETS @ GREEN BAY: 1 UNIT ON GREEN BAY -8.0 AT $1.92 (SPORTSBET)
Having barely beaten the Raiders at home when facing a QB who was behind Matt Schaub on the Oakland depth chart, the Jets now face Aaron Rodgers trying to avoid a 0-2 start to the year at Lambeau Field. The Pack could run riot here.

  1. Cliff Bingham says:

Nick has arrived! His tips for week 3 are as follows:

    Buffalo -2.0 at $1.91 (Centrebet)
The Bills might be the real deal this year. They were excellent the last two weeks and can beat a San Diego side that may have blown all its energies v Seattle. Buffalo have covered 8 of 10 at home. Buffalo are not getting the respect they deserve.

    Cleveland +2.0 at $1.88 (Sportsbet)
Baltimore have not covered five straight divisional road games while the Browns have actually looked pretty solid this year, even with some key injuries. The Ravens are in a big letdown situation to boot.

    Chicago +3.0 at $1.79 (Sportsbet)
The Jets can’t be feeling good after last week’s blown lead. The Bears will follow the template of the Packers comeback and throw long and throw deep. Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery are up for big games.
