Week 3 NRL Finals – Making the Nut Round Selection

Broncos – Line: 5.00 Bet Units: Even without Lockyer this side still rates the house down and can go on and meet Melbourne in the Grand Final. The Broncos pack welcomes back Thaiday this week, and with Lockyer out, Gillett will play 80 minutes as a running 2nd receiver – this shape is a view to the future for the Broncos. McCullough and Wallace have a big job to do here, kick long to the corners and create pressure – the Broncos pack can do the rest on the back of a strong kick-chase. Points will come on the fringes with likes of Glenn, Gillett, Thaiday, Parker encouraged to play football – there is not a better balanced side in the comp than Brisbane. Griffin has got this side humming with confidence in their ability to defend their line first and foremost than produce top shelf attack in the oppositions 20 – its a great tactic they play. Sharp and big outside backs eat metres on kick returns, and jump out of of dummy-half on tackle 2 before Hannant, Thaiday, McGuire and Anderson roll forward on tackle 3 and 4 – usually by this time an attacking kick is a play for Yow Yeh, Beale, Reed and Co, they are class and systematic with a touch of flair. The Sea Eagles are a super side, but will be tested like never before in the forwards this Friday. Galuvoa and Rose do not play huge minutes with Mauro and Robinson toilers – the class factor in the forward is well and truly with Brisbane. Manly can win through their very good, and experienced, back-line – their spine is outstanding! Cherry-Evans will not be fussed by the occasion, one of the coolest heads in the comp and he has only played one season – he is simply the key to Sea Eagles winning. He took over when Foran was trying to hard against the Cowboys and settled the attack and pace of the game – it was very good and a great sign for the future of this gun half. Lyon and Matai will need to have blinders, and be involved in nearly every set of six – yes, the Sea Eagles will play this one wide as the middle third battle will be a no contest. Even without Lockyer talent oozes in the 2012 premiership favourites, and they can go on one more week, this will be tight though so the plus line is play – Broncos +6.5 to +8.5
