Saturday June 29

Moonee Valley (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 4 No. 6 Imoto

  • Forgive her last run against the boys (when she was stuck near the rails on a day where the outside going was best), gets back down to 51 kilos against the mares here, 4 starts at the trip for 3-0-1, 6 starts when third-up or further into a campaign for 3-1-1.

Race 7 No. 9 Gig

  • She is definitely better fresh (8 starts for 3-3-1 when first or second up, 7 starts for 0-2-1 therefater), 10 starts at the trip for 3-3-1, beat Group-placed Al Aneed 3 starts back and ran second to dual Group 1 winner Platelet 5 starts back, drawn barrier one.

Race 8 No. 2 Clear For Action

  • Speculating a bit that he’s raring to go off an 88-week break, but his form lines are outstanding for an RB89. Ran 3 Group 1 second placings in Singapore in his most recent 5 starts, 4 starts at the trip for 3-0-1, won both of his previous first-up runs, only unplaced once in his career, drawn barrier one.

Sunshine Coast (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 7 No. 1 Belltone

  • The only horse in the field coming back from the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (often the bets form reference for this race in recent years), won at Group 3 level the start prior, won this race last year, career record of 20 starts for 8-4-2 when you remove his first-up stats.

Race 8 No. 8 High Kin

  • Wins the Ipswich Cup last start in a couple more strides (form through Voila Ici and therefore Quintessential looks sound for this race), now has 5 starts for 3-1-0 when third-up or further into a campaign, NZ-bred horses have won 9 of the last 12 Caloundra Cups.

Even though the track has been downgraded to a heavy 9, I'm going to stick with both Belltone and High Kin as recommended bets, and thus will be including the results of betting on them (watch them both get rolled now…..)
