Saturday October 19

Caulfield (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 6 No. 7 Conservatorium

His 2013 form has been excellent, meets Galah 5.5 kilos better for being beaten narrowly in the Group 2 QTC Cup in June, improves rapidly after a run back (7 starts for 1-0-0 first-up, 20 starts for 6-5-1 thereafter), drops back from Group 1 WFA level first-up to a Group 3 SWP race here, drawn to get a cheap run behind the speed.

Race 7 No. 4 Ready To Rip

Races at his best when fresh (12 starts for 7-2-1 first or second-up, 15 starts for 1-3-1 thereafter), 3 starts at Caulfield for 2-0-1 including a Group 2 WFA win, never run over 1100 metres before but has strong form at both 1000 and 1200 metres.

Race 8 No. 4 Scream Machine

Improves significantly after a couple of runs back (11 starts for 0-1-3 first or second-up, 14 starts for 5-1-3 thereafter), loves this trip (5 starts for 3-0-1), his lead-up runs in both the Group 3 Cameron Handicap and Group 1 Epsom Handicap (beaten only 2.5 lengths after being second last on the turn) have both been strong.

Race 10 No. 13 Julienas

Loves 2400 metres (4 starts for 2-2-0), his last two starts have resulted in a win over 2400 metres at Group 3 level carrying 59 kilos and a second to Seville in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (Railings and Tawqueet have done the Metropolitan-Caulfield Cup double in recent years), can cross from a wide gate to race on the speed and will take some running down.

Randwick (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 7 No. 9 Midsummer Sun

Races best fresh (8 starts for 5-0-1 first or second-up, 8 starts for 0-0-0 thereafter), won both first and second-up in his first (and only) preparation in Australia, had 2 trials to prepare him for a first-up tilt, gets in on the limit weight.

Doomben (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 3 No. 1 Belltone

7 starts for 4-0-1 at the track/ trip, gets in with 57.5 kilos after the claim, his last 4 starts read: beaten 3.3 lengths by Rebel Dane, 2.5 lengths by Malavio/ Beelo, 3.8 lengths by Boban, 4.4 lengths by Boban in a Group 1 – great form for now dropping back to an open handicap in Brisbane.
