Debunking the Ricky Stuart Myth
Ricky Stuart’s one great skill is his ability to create an illusion, the illusion that he is an elite coach on the same level as Wayne Bennett and Craig Bellamy. His ability to deceive a good portion of the rugby league world is a greater achievement than anything he has achieved in rugby league coaching, particularly over the last five years where all signs point to the word failure yet most in the game buy into this self-perpetuated myth that he is a working class rugby league intellectual who cares about nothing else but the greatest game of all.
He is the Harry Houdini of the NRL. The veil of intensity is his smoke while his tainted 2002 premiership and his record coaching a team with seventeen former, current or future internationals on his books are his mirrors. He is an old fashioned snake oil salesman and most in rugby league just can’t wait to buy more.
