The Friday Fast Break: Week 13

Filed in Other by on December 31, 2011

Sydney v Adelaide (Friday, Sydney -3 to -3.5)
The Kings host the 36ers in the first of a two-game stand this weekend. The Kings have dropped two on the trot but won in round 10 against Adelaide at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, saluting by four. The Kings shared the scoring around that night with three players scoring 20-plus while Daniel Johnson’s 24 was the only player to top the mark for the Sixers. Sydney’s ability to get to the line was the key that night and they should be too strong again.

Cairns v New Zealand (Saturday, Cairns 0 to +1)
The Taipans are slipping, falling out of the four on the back of a 1-3 record in their last four. An inability to put points on the board is going to cost them against the League-leading New Zealand Breakers. Forget the demolition job in Perth. New Zealand will bounce back here in the Grand Final re-match.

Gold Coast v Melbourne (Saturday, Gold Coast -7.5)
I am starting my New Year’s resolution a day early: Do not bet on Melbourne Tigers games. I fancy the Blaze are legitimate title contenders but they won’t be getting mine this week.

Townsville v Perth (Saturday, Townsville +1.5 to +2.5)
The Crocs are a different team at home, going 4-1 in Townsville. With three wins in their last four, I have a very strong lean towards the Crocs but Perth are probably the best team in the NBL. Stay away from this though I would love to see one of my favourite players, Eddie Gill, pull out another match winning show.

Wollongong v Sydney (Saturday, Wollongong -2 to -2.5)
Wollongong have lost their last two by an average of 26 points. I am not sure how they are favoured here, even against the Kings. This is certainly a big play on Sydney, who should be able to score way too freely for the Hawks, who are struggling on offense, putting up only 75.4 points a game.
