Saturday September 10

Moonee Valley (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 4 No. 3 Rue Maple

This mare continues to race in great heart without winning, with the form lines around her races being particularly strong. In particular, her sixth placing the Group 3 Cockram Stakes has already held up, with three of the horses to beat her home that day (Mid Summer Music, Parables and Pinker Pinker) running the trifecta in the Group 3 Let’s Elope Stakes. Today she drops in class and returns to Moonee Valley, where she has posted two wins and three placings from five starts at this track and distance.

Race 5 No. 6 Lucky Eighty Eight

His first up run was fantastic when an unlucky third to Pinnacles at Caulfield. His overall record stands at six wins and four lacings from 15 starts, but improves to six wins and two placings from just ten starts when you remove the first-up runs. On that basis it is reasonable to suggest that he can improve on his first-up run and if he does so, he will be very hard to hold out here.

Race 6 No. 3 Buffering

A comfortable winner over Atomic Force at WFA level in Group 2 Victory Stakes at Eagle farm in April and subsequently third to Black Caviar and Hay List in the Group 1 BTC Cup, this talented Queensland speedster is likely to take up the running and may simply run them off their feet. He has won all three of his first-up runs and also won his only start over 1000 metres. With blinkers on for the first time, I think he will be primed for a very sharp first-up run.

Race 9 No. 10 Spirited Eagle

As much as it hurts me to take on Response here, I’m going with a talented four year-old who has won five of his eleven races to date and whom is better suited at the sprinting caper than over the mile, where he failed twice at the end of his last preparation. His form through Eclair Mystic and Bullbars at black type level in the autumn should see him up this race class wise. But the key elements to my mind are his weight of 53 kilos (the minimum, and 7.5 kilos less than Response and Woorim have to carry) and his good draw in barrier three. I think he’s the right horse for the right race.

Rosehill (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 4 No. 6 Ofcourseican

The pace should be very solid with the likes of Solar Charged, Platinum Skye and Phenomenal Lass engaged here, and I think that will set the race up for the swoopers. Ofcourseican has a strong record at Rosehill (two wins and a second from four starts) and on good tracks (five wins and three placings from nine starts). Her last two first-up runs have resulted in a win and a second, and she was a winner at Listed level in the autumn. With barrier three and sitting on the 53 kilo limit, I think she is well placed.

Doomben (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 1 No. 6 They Won’t Last

His last start eleventh in the Listed Premier’s Handicap at Rosehill was better than it looked, as he didn’t get much running room in the straight and was still only beaten by less than four lengths. Prior to that his Melbourne form through the likes of Testascana and White Universe over this journey stands him in good stead. Whilst he hasn’t won in five attempts over the 1600 metres to date, he has placed three times and is a multiple winner over 1550 metres, so his form over this distance range is sound. With a drop in class and only 53.5 kilos after the claim, I think the trip north will pay dividends.

Luxbet offer a wide variety of bet types when it comes to thoroughbred racing. In particular, for something as simple as a win-only bet on any given race, there are a number of different odds options that can be taken. For reasons I’ve previously articulated in some detail, their ‘Best of Best’ odds option is my personal favourite. You can certainly do a lot better than the SP when you’re betting with Luxbet.
