Week 1 NRL Finals – Making the Nut Round Selection

Cowboys – Line: 5.00 Bet Units: The Sea Eagles have all the right to be favourites in this one but without arguably their most influential player, in Glenn Stewart, plus the coming down from such a high a couple of weeks ago the Cowboys might be getting them at the right time. Last week the Sea Eagles were gallant against a Broncos side that, over the last 2 weeks, have not been playing as high-quality as expected. The Sea Eagles will have players back, but the pack and interchange lacks real fear this week. The Cowboys pack has been strong all year and the dummy-half rotation is now working very well, but one of the keys to the Cowboys getting close or winning in this final is the experience and quality of their outside backs and fullback – they have simply great wingers (Graham is probably the most underrated winger, maybe player, in the NRL), the centres in Tonga and Tate are world class and strong enough to shut down the equally classy Lyon and Matai, and the brilliant Bowen is in career best form. Thurston can unlock this whole game and final series – if he can get going on the back of a dominant forward pack he can not just get them home but deep into the finals. In a dire, but intense game, the Cowboys were close enough to beat the Warriors in New Zealand last week – the Warriors are going very, very well (they nearly rated as a selection this week). The line is appealing here (+6.5 to +7.5) and suggested bet is to take it, we also feel this could be the upset of Week 1.
