Saturday July 14

Caulfield (tips based on a track rating range of slow 6 to heavy 10)

Race 5 No. 5 Show Up

  • She is a much better horse when fresh – four wins and two placings from eight runs first or second up; one win and three placings from 14 runs when third up or further into a preparation.
  • She has three wins and two placings from nine starts on slow or heavy tracks.
  • Last preparation, she won by 2.2 lengths when first up at Sandown Hillside on a heavy track.
  • Can push forward in a race where the speed looks okay without being overwhelming.

Race 6 No. 15 Platelet

  • A number of spring hopefuls are resuming, but often these races fall to the fit, in-form gallopers, such as this filly.
  • Her last two runs have been excellent, carting 58.5 and 59 kilos respectively to victories.
  • She now has four wins and six placings from 11 career starts, including three wins and four placings from seven runs when third-up or further into a campaign.
  • She is untried on heavy tracks, but has two wins and two seconds from four runs on the slow.
  • Barrier 11 is awkward, but she should get a cart across from Zamorar (barrier 13) and Alpha Proxima (16) into a handy position in running.

Race 8 No. 7 Prince Of Capers

  • Was very strong in winning his last start at Morphettville Parks with 58 kilos on a slow track.
  • Has four wins and four placings from 11 starts at the distance.
  • Has four wins and five placings from 13 starts on slow or heavy tracks.
  • Has two wins and two seconds from his last four race starts.
  • Has drawn barrier one, from which Luke Nolen can stalk the likely leader Jungle Ruler.

Warwick Farm (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 7 No. 1 Zakynthos Imprintz

  • Has been in excellent form of late, with two wins and two placings from his last five starts (his only miss coming over an unsuitably long 2000 metres).
  • Was a last start winner at this track, and has two wins and a third from his last three starts here.
  • Handles all track conditions well, with previous wins on good, dead, slow and heavy tracks.
  • His only previous start over a mile two runs back (when third, beaten less than a half a length), while he lost a photo finish four starts back over 1800 metres, so the trip should prove no problem.
  • Should get a nice trail in behind the likely leader O’Crikey.

Morphettville Parks (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 7 No. 10 Road Warrior

  • You want to catch this galloper early in his campaign (he’s second up here). He has four wins and five placings from 13 first or second-up runs, compared to one win and six placings further into a preparation.
  • Ran home nicely when finishing fourth over an unsuitably short 1100 metres first-up.
  • Meets Pilot’s Lane five kilos better off for being beaten less than a length at this track and trip back in Februrary (when he was second-up last time in).
  • Has three wins and two seconds from eight runs at this track.
  • Drawn well in barrier four and should get a strong tempo to suit his run-on style.

Making The Nut is very pleased to have Luxbet on board as a sponsor of the site again in 2012.

Luxbet offer a wide variety of bet types when it comes to thoroughbred racing. In particular, for something as simple as a win-only bet on any given race, there are a number of different odds options that can be taken. For reasons I’ve previously articulated in some detail, their ‘Best of Best’ odds option is my personal favourite. You can certainly do a lot better than the SP when you’re betting with Luxbet.
