Rules
(1) A ‘track rating range’ for which the tip will be considered valid will accompany selections.
(2) Results refer to a win-only bet at the bookmakers’ starting price (SP) or Luxbet’s ‘Best of Best’ (BOB) price divided into two groups– those where the SP is $5.50 or less (Group 1), and those where the SP is $6 or greater (Group 2).
Saturday August 27
Caulfield (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)
Race 2 No. 1 Miss Gai Flyer
Forgive her first up run down the Flemington straight (a task mnay horses simply don't cope well with) and her autumn form is quite compelling for a race such as this, winning twice at Listed level. She is one out of one at Caulfield, one out of one over the 1100 metres and four out of seven overall on tracks rated dead or better. With a handy draw in barrrier three and only 56 kilos after the claim, I think she's very well suited here.
Race 3 No. 6 Simply Put
Yeah yeah, I tip this mare a lot. These are the facts: (1) she burnt across from barrier 13 last start in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes and wasn't the only one to fade in the last 200 metres (I'm Discreet faded to dead last); (2) last preparation she beat Mid Summer Music, ran fourth to Group 1 winner Beaded at Group level and ran a narrow second to Red Flair in a Group 3 at this track and distance. With a drop in grade, barrier three and 55.5 kilos, ignore her at your own risk.
Race 7 No. 4 Grand Duels
This grand old galloper dusted off his best form last preparation with three wins in a row, two coming at Listed level. He has a strong first-up record of three wins and two placings from seven fresh runs and with the speed in this race likely to be pretty solid (most of it drawn out wide), the race could well be set up for a late swooper such as him.
Rosehill (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)
Race 6 No. 5 Hume
It has been a while coming, but he finally gets into a race over a more suitable journey. His form around the mile distance in Brisbane of late has been solid, running on strongly late in races that were simply too short whilst often carrying big weights. Now he gets into an 1800 metre race on the 53 kilo limit – not bad for a horse who ran second to Shocking in the Group 2 Lexus Quality on VRC Derby Day in 2009. Throw in his record on slow tracks (two starts for two wins) and I think he has his hoof on the till.

Luxbet offer a wide variety of bet types when it comes to thoroughbred racing. In particular, for something as simple as a win-only bet on any given race, there are a number of different odds options that can be taken. For reasons I’ve previously articulated in some detail, their ‘Best of Best’ odds option is my personal favourite. You can certainly do a lot better than the SP when you’re betting with Luxbet.
