Saturday July 21

Caulfield (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 6 No. 7 Ready To Rip

  • Really liked his first-up win for the Peter Moody stable at Listed level – a run from which he should take improvement.
  • He has three wins and a placing from eight starts at the distance.
  • He also has six wins and three placings from 12 starts on tracks rated dead or worse.
  • From barrier nine, he should be able to take a sit behind the likely strong tempo and finish over the top of them.

Race 8 No. 8 Prince Obama

  • His last two runs have been very strong, finishing a close third to Verdasco (whom he meets two kilos better off this time around) and a close fourth to Ready To Rip at Listed level (we’ll know from the earlier race as to whether that form line stacks up – I think it will).
  • While he hasn’t won at 1400 metres yet from three attempts, he has been placed twice, including a third placing at Group 2 WFA level early in the 2011 Spring Carnival.
  • Only has to carry half a kilo more than the limit, and from barrier eight should be able to stalk the speed set by Club Command and Justify That.

Warwick Farm (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 7 No. 1 Zakynthos Imprintz

  • Has won his last two starts, both at this track in races of comparable class.
  • He has three wins and three placings from nine starts at the track, including two wins from three starts at the track and trip.
  • Take out an unplaced run at 2000 metres from four starts ago and you’re left with three wins and two placings from his last five runs.

Doomben (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 8 No. 4 Lucky Luna

  • His first-up run (and win) was excellent, given that in the past he has taken a run or two to come into form.
  • He has five wins and three placings from 11 starts at the track, including two wins and a placing from six runs at the track and trip.
  • Last preparation he won back to back races at this track, including a victory over Steel Zip.
  • Gets into this race with only 55.5 kilos after the claim – when you consider that he carried 59 kilos in a Listed handicap race three starts ago, that’s a luxury weight.

Making The Nut is very pleased to have Luxbet on board as a sponsor of the site again in 2012.

Luxbet offer a wide variety of bet types when it comes to thoroughbred racing. In particular, for something as simple as a win-only bet on any given race, there are a number of different odds options that can be taken. For reasons I’ve previously articulated in some detail, their ‘Best of Best’ odds option is my personal favourite. You can certainly do a lot better than the SP when you’re betting with Luxbet.
