June 2 Racing Selections

Another couple of bets, another placing, no winners…. just fantastic. Since I still haven’t worked out how to set fire to the internet and destroy all evidence that these columns ever existed, I’m going to add the number of placings to the recordkeeping process. I’m sadistic like that. June 2 tips cover the meetings at Warwick Farm and Eagle Farm (featuring the Group 1 Queensland Oaks).

Saturday June 2

Warwick Farm (tips based on a track rating range of good 2 to dead 5)

Race 6 No. 2 Once Were Wild

  • Forgive her last start sixth in the Listed McKell Cup on an unsuitably wet track (she is unplaced in five career runs on slow or heavy tracks).
  • Ran third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (beaten less than a length) at her previous run.
  • Also a former winner of the Chairman’s Handicap and placed in a Lexus Quality, so she is capable of mixing it with the elite stayers.
  • Is likely to use her nice draw (barrier two) to stalk her stablemate Reuben Percival in the run and prove hard to hold out.

Race 8 No. 5 River Of Salvation

  • Brought his strong provincial form to town last start at Canterbury, winning a BM75 against the likes of Mossamine and Take The Oath (both among the favoured runners for this race).
  • Something of a specialist at the mile, with three wins and a third from five attempts.
  • If you remove his first-up runs, his career record stands at five wins and four placings from just 11 starts.
  • Also seen to advantage by good tracks, on which he has four wins and five placings from 10 starts.
  • Although yet to race at Warwick Farm he is trained on the track, so familiarity should prove no problem.

Eagle Farm (tips based on a track rating range of dead 4 to slow 7)

Race 8 No. 5 Steel Zip

  • Was excellent in his last start when a narrow (and fast finishing) third to Tiger Tees in the Group 3 BRC Sprint, in what appears to be the strongest form line for this race.
  • Has won two of his six races at Eagle Farm, including a Listed win over 1600 metres on rain-affected going four starts back.
  • Has won four races on dead or worse rated tracks from 11 attempts.

Making The Nut is very pleased to have Luxbet on board as a sponsor of the site again in 2012.

Luxbet offer a wide variety of bet types when it comes to thoroughbred racing. In particular, for something as simple as a win-only bet on any given race, there are a number of different odds options that can be taken. For reasons I’ve previously articulated in some detail, their ‘Best of Best’ odds option is my personal favourite. You can certainly do a lot better than the SP when you’re betting with Luxbet.
